It suddenly feels like it’s time for autumn fishing gear again.
The nights are getting shorter, the mornings colder, and suddenly you can’t remember where your hats and scarves have been tucked away.
Anyway, we’ve already written about how to make your wet weather gear last longer into winter. But if you’re looking to spruce up your fishing wardrobe this season, here’s some of our favourite autumn fishing gear.

Autumn in the UK can be pretty unpredictable. Especially when it feels like you’re dressing for every season. So a good general rule is to layer up – using things like wet weather vests and other waterproof items.
These vests are great for commercial fishing (especially if the task at hand is labour intensive), but they’re also useful for people who work in agriculture or outdoor sports.

Speaking of durable, another thing we find useful at this time of year are pullovers.
It’s not just important to wear layers. They need to be lightweight too. That’s why pullovers tend to be pretty useful – they protect your body from the elements, but won’t bulk you down either.
Foul weather jackets

Unfortunately, the weather isn’t always so tame. When things get tough we tend to stick to foul weather jackets.
The great thing about these garments is they withstand virtually any weather condition. And if you choose one that’s made from PVC, it’s easy to maintain and you’ll have it for years to come.

Waterproof fishing pants
Things to look out for
- Knee padding
- Extra coverage for the body
- High visibility
Last thing on our list are fishing pants.
Generally, you can use the same pair all year round. But it’s in the colder months when features like additional padding and high visibility are especially welcome.
