Sports fishing (salt water fishing)
“That would be a 40kg Southern bluefin Tuna.”
Stick to the basics as they have produced fish for the hundreds of years prior! Fish smarter not harder!
Why I love fishing:
“I love fishing because it’s not only my passion but a relaxing sport where I can get away from the stresses of high school and enjoy the many amazing fishing experiences with my dad; the man who got me into fishing as soon as I was able to hold a fishing rod. And I just love fishing! It’s in my blood!”
Favourite fishing memory:
“One morning me and dad launched at our local boat ramp at around 2 am in search of the famous Australian snapper (big red), the weather was against us and it was blowing 35 knot winds with gale warnings forecast for Port Phillip Bay!
Our favourite spot was 10 km from the ramp and took us nearly an hour to reach but once we dropped anchor at about 3 am all hell broke loose! We baited six rods and as soon as they hit the bottom all six reels were screaming! We were onto a huge school of snapper with no other boat in sight!
For the next 3-4 hours me and dad caught countless large snapper, losing count after 25, all between 5-7 kg. We released every single one to fight another day, except for three which were dinner. We arrived back home by 7 am just in time for breakfast and did it all again the next day!
Tips for beginners
– “Use technology to your advantage. You have sounders and gps on your boat for a reason. Buy quality electronics that will assist you to catch that fish of a lifetime. Fishing has become very technical but one tip is stick to the basics as they have produced fish for hundreds of years prior. Fish smarter not harder!”
– “Apart from my dad who brought fishing into my life, I would have to say an Australian fisho by the name of Brendan Wing, producer of Youfishtv Australia! His drive, hard work, patience and passion to catch big fish has inspired me to follow in his footsteps and go out and chase those big elusive fish!”
Anthony’s hero, Brendan Wing in action.
If I could change one thing about the world of fishing…
“It would be the weather on weekends haha!”
Big thanks to Anthony for taking the time to speak to Stormline.
