Needless to say, this is less than ideal when you’re trying to focus on the task at hand. You could end up wet and uncomfortable, and your safety could even be put at risk. And of course, it means shelling out to replace waterproof workwear when it fails.
If you work within industries like construction, forestry, jetwashing, fishing, farming or commercial gardening, you’re bound to demand a lot from your gear. But one of the most important priorities when choosing kit has to be waterproofing.
This is why at Stormline, we take extra steps to guarantee that our waterproof workwear really does do its job. We design every piece of midweight waterproof gear with real workers in mind, and test everything extensively.
To keep out the elements and keep you fully protected, we incorporate features such as reinforced seams, adjustable ankles and cuffs, and PU coatings. It’s all to give you the perfect balance between comfort and protection – as well as peace of mind – while you’re at work.
Top features to look out for when buying waterproof workwear
If you want to head out to work properly kitted out for the day ahead, you need the right waterproof workwear. This means tried-and-tested kit that is specially designed to withstand the rigours of the work. It needs to be rip and tear-proof, easy to move in and of course, completely waterproof down to the last seam.
Let’s take a look at some of the top features to look out for when buying waterproof midweight gear:
- The right material. Look for jackets and overalls made from 500gsm PVC, which offers waterproofing as well as flexibility, durability and freedom of movement. For all-weather protection, a PU coating can add additional waterproofing – as well as protection from oils, chemicals and other hazardous or corrosive substances.
- Adjustable fit at the ankles and wrists. Something as simple as velcro tabs, elastic cuffs or stainless steel snaps at the ankles can provide a custom fit, even if you’re wearing large boots. It tightens the material at the ankles or wrists to prevent water from getting in, which means no more wet feet or the unpleasant sensation of water running up your sleeves.
- Reinforced seams. Seams can be an area of weakness in certain types of waterproof workwear, especially jackets. But by electronically welding the seams, this provides reinforcement so that they can’t rip, tear, weaken or start to let water in. Always look out for this feature when buying midweight and heavy duty waterproof jackets.
- Flexibility and freedom of movement. While not specifically related to waterproofing, it’s also crucial to choose waterproof workwear that you can move comfortably. Look for items with a relaxed fit, looser around the chest and waist so that you can move easily – and layer up with additional items on those colder days. Breathability and adjustability are also very important, especially if you have a very phsyical or demanding job.
