Keep on building, whatever the weather
The construction industry is one that is hugely affected by changing weather conditions. There are some days when rain, high winds, storms and even ice and snow can stop play altogether, leaving you no choice but to down tools in the interests of safety.
But on other days of cool temperatures, drizzle and grey clouds, there’s no choice but to carry on. And on these days, having the right workwear can be a game changer.
Here at Stormline, we make sure you can keep on building, whatever the weather. We stock a wide range of construction rain gear, including exceptional quality waterproof jackets, midweight bib and brace
overalls, waterproof overtrousers, thermal pullovers, vests and much more.

Is it 100% waterproof?
This is arguably the most important question to be asking when you’re buying construction rain gear for yourself or your team. Is it really 100% waterproof? If it’s not, you could be heading for a damp, uncomfortable and perhaps even hazardous experience on site.
There are many clothing and even specialist workwear brands which stock gear claiming to be waterproof. But what you might actually find is that some of these items are only ‘water resistant’ or ‘showerproof’, or there’s a flaw in the design which lets rainwater in.
There’s also the issue of durability, as some items offer full waterproofing at first, but start to deteriorate quickly. The seams are a particularly vulnerable spot, losing strength and tightness over time. This unfortunately means wet shoulders, as the seams start to let in moisture.
At Stormline, we go to extraordinary lengths to make sure that our construction rain gear really is 100% waterproof – and that it stays that way.
This includes features such as:
- Welded and reinforced seams designed to withstand every bend, stretch and reach of the working day for years into the future. This means they won’t weaken over time and start to let in water.
- Exceptional quality water-resistant materials like professional-grade PVC, which slicks rainwater right off the surface as well as drying faster when it does get wet.
- Adjustable ankle and wrist cuffs which can be tightened to prevent moisture penetration. You can also use this adjustability to get a good fit between your trouser leg and work boots, reducing the chance that rainwater can get into your footwear. Safe to say, wet feet is the last thing you want on a construction site!
- Velcro storm flaps. Commonly found on waterproof jackets, these storm flaps act as a protective layer so that water doesn’t slip into the coat as it runs off the flap. It also helps jackets to be breathable, so you stay comfortable while working.
Why is waterproofing so important? Well, if you’ve ever worked on a construction site in autumn or winter and forgot your waterproofs, you’ll already know the answer to this question.
There’s nothing more uncomfortable than water gradually soaking your clothes, wetting your shoulders, running up your sleeves and down your collar. It gets through all your other layers of clothing until you’re wet through, and then there’s the chill of winter winds to worry about.
If you don’t have a spare set of clothes, then you’ll be spending the entire day cold, wet and miserable.
This is not only horribly uncomfortable, but it can also be dangerous. If you have wet hands and feet, there’s the risk of slipping on wet surfaces. You’re also likely to be more distracted, not fully able to concentrate on a potentially hazardous job because all you can think about is your wet clothes.
And if nothing else, having sub-standard kit and feeling uncomfortable at work just isn’t good for site morale. This is why it’s so critical to ensure your team have the best quality construction rain gear your budget will stretch to.
Spotlight on: Stormtex-Air 203 Wet Weather Jacket
One of our most popular products among construction workers has to be the Stormtex-Air 203 Wet Weather Jacket. It’s a versatile, hard-working piece that ticks all the right boxes. It’s fully waterproof, easy to wear and move in, and it has a hi-vis neon design. This makes it ideal for construction sites, where visibility is absolutely critical.
The jacket is made from 340gsm stretch PVC with oil-resistant PU coating. It’s tough and waterproof, yet surprisingly lightweight and breathable. This makes it a particularly good choice for construction, where the work is physically demanding and mobility is essential. In this jacket, you can carry out a full range of tasks on site, while staying safe, warm and dry.
Other standout features of our Stormtex-Air 203 Wet Weather Jacket include:
- Large front utility pockets, which are roomy enough for smaller tools (and essentials like your phone, site pass and keys). They’re also angled for easy access, so you can dip in and out whenever you need to.
- Full-length heavy duty reinforced plastic YKK zip. It’s tough, durable and specially designed to be easy to use even with gloves on. The zip is often the weak point on workwear, and you have to replace the whole jacket if it breaks. Stormline jackets are different, as as much work has gone into the design of the zip as the rest of the garment.
- Velcro storm flap, elastic cuffs and drawstring hood for added waterproofing, ideal for when the weather turns wet and windy.
- Raglan sleeves for greater freedom and range of movement. The sleeves on this jacket are sewed right up to the collar, and this is what enables such free and flexible movement.
- A longer back for extra water protection. This feature is essential for people working in active, physically demanding roles. The extended back lets you move, bend down and pick things up without getting wet, and without restricting your movement at all.
This jacket pairs well with both our Stormtex-Air 652 Wet Weather Bib and Brace Overalls, and our Stormtex 669B Midweight PVC Waterproof Workwear Bib and Brace.
